5 Things I like about the TATA EV
Here are the 5 things I like about the TATA EV. We've been driving the TATA EV for three weeks now and it has become our main family car. Here are my top five reasons I like this car:
1. It's Electric!

This is the most obvious one - It's electric. We have been using electric cars since 2006 and we prefer using an electric car to an internal combustion engine. Having an electric motor means that it is very smooth as there is no vibration from an engine. It is very responsive, you put your foot down and the car responds instantly. An electric car is also environmentally friendly with no CO2 emissions from an exhaust. (And the 'pit to plug' carbon footprint is low too. See our How Green is our power? page to see how the electric car compares to a mainstream combustion engine car).
2. It's simple to use
Other than the G-Wiz, this is the simplest of all the electric cars we have driven. The transmission has only three positions drive, neutral and reverse. The dash is a very simple layout with Speedo, state of charge indicator and energy usage indicator. Unlike other electric cars, it's clearly laid out and simple to see what is going on at a glance. TATA have designed the car to be easy to use.

3. It's Comfortable
The TATA EV has full leather seats with good support. It has plenty of interior room including height and leg room in the back of the car. Ride and handling is good - both are better than the Mitsubishi i-MiEV. Rear luggage space is reasonable. I have managed to get a weekly shop for our family of four.
4. Looks
The car looks more like a conventional car with smart styling. Some people prefer the looks of quirky and unusual cars, I prefer the simple look and the TATA fits the bill. People who have seen the G-Wiz, Mitsubishi i MiEV and the TATA side by side have said they prefer the looks of the TATA.

5. It's built in Coventry, UK
A new factory has been set up to build the TATA which is only 5 miles down the road from us. They are planning to expand the factory over the next couple of years employing a further 100 staff. The car has been developed in the Automotive Centre within the University of Warwick.
Overall we have been very pleased with the car, with its performance, looks and ease of use.
