CABLED project first 6 months

Angela Boxwell and the
Mitsubishi i MiEV electric car
7th October 2010 - As part of the CABLED project the first 6 months data has been collected and reported back from Aston University. We have been driving the Mitsubishi i MiEV as part of the project, but other cars are due to go on the trial are 25 x Tata Indica Vista, 40 x smart fortwo electric drives, 10 x Microcab hydrogen cars, 5 Range-e and 5 LTI electric cabs.
The report for the first 6 months of the i MiEV shows four main points:
- On a single charge the Mitsubishi can complete around 80 miles, average daily charge used is around 30%.
- The i MiEV is charge on average for 2 hours, this allows 30-40 miles driving.
- Charging is done similar to that of a mobile phone and that it is plugged in most nights, even if it is only half full.
- Most of the cars are charged overnight and 5 average length journeys can be completed on one charge.
These findings from the CABLED report are typical of our own use, although we try not to plug the car in every night unless we need a full charge for the following day.
