Day 7 EV Research

Angela in the Mitsubishi i MiEV

14th May 2010 - We are now on day 7 of the EV Research. We were contacted back in January via the G-Wiz Forums by a student at Durham. She is researching how an EV is used in the real world by regular users.

For the research she needs a week long diary including all our electric car use. This is our diary.

Day 7

Friday - Yesterday we were using drive mode only and today I will continue to use drive mode only to see how many miles we can achieve on one charge. I will not be using Eco Mode or regenerative braking.

School run today 11.8 miles in total.

A visit to our local Fruit and Vegetable shop 7.8 miles. We use this shop so that we can purchase local products and they are normally fresher than the supermarkets.

Mike has to go into work at lunch time, total trip 13 miles. Plus 1.5 miles visiting a shop.

On arriving home after using only drive mode all day we have 2 bars remaining on the charge indicator and 12 miles remaining.

Today we have completed 34.1 miles.

In total for the 2 days driving only using drive mode we have driven 53.7 miles. If you add on the 12 miles remaining on the tripometer this would have given us a range of 65.7 miles. We believe we should be able to achieve above 80 miles on a charge. so next week we will see if this can be achieved.

This is our last day of completing our diary for the EV Research. Tomorrow our research student will come round to discuss how we use an electric vehicle and what we think of them.
