Kids interest in electric cars
At the school yesterday some of the kids showed an interest in our electric cars.
We are driving the Tata Indica Vista EV on a year's trial with CABLED. My son is 6 years old and they have been discussing electricity as part of their work looking at the environment. My son informed the class that we drive an electric car, which has given great interest from some of the boys in the class.
Yesterday when we were going back to the car, one of the boys asked about it, so I asked him if he would like to come and have a look. The first thing he did was to look underneath the car for the exhaust pipe, but of course there is nothing to be seen. I then showed him where we plug the car in; I opened the flap so that he could see the connection point. He then asked how we plug it in. So I showed him the power lead. He was impressed that a car can run on something different to petrol.
One of the mums then came up to me and we discussed how practical an electric car is in our situation. We live in a village, so most of the journeys are fairly short with trips for school runs, shopping and ferrying the kids around. She thought that an electric car was an ideal solution, not only for saving money and the environment, but also one of her concerns is leaving the kids in the car when filling up and paying for petrol.
This sort of discussion gets people thinking and it is great getting the children interested.
