Mitsubishi i MiEV electric car

27th May 2010 - Today we got the Mitsubishi electric car range down to 0. We had been using the Mitsubishi for a couple of days without charging it up. We had lots of short journeys to complete and decided to see how low we could get the miles remaining as shown on the tripometer.

Our last journey showed 20 miles remaining and we wanted to complete a 14 mile journey. Most people get range anxiety when the batteries are getting low. We are at the stage after using electric cars for 4 years, that we know how many miles they is capable of and we use it accordingly.

Although we had a 6 miles extra this can easily be used by driving the car aggressively, by using the boost mode only and accelerating fairly hard. On our return home we drove fairly fast and as we entered our village the miles remaining showed 0. This did not affect the car in any way. On the G-Wiz when there is very little charge remaining it goes into a limp home mode. This mode will only allow the car to drive at slow speeds.

We know from other peoples experience with the Mitsubishi that there is extra charge available from the battery pack, when the range remaining shows 0. It is put back on charge this evening ready for tomorrow.
