National Grid Electric
The carbon footprint of the national grid varies throughout the day, depending on the demand for electricity and where the electricity is being generated.
In the United Kingdom, the National Grid publishes the power source for all our electricity and the grid utilisation. This information is updated every five minutes throughout the day.
Based on this information, it is possible to monitor the carbon footprint of each kilowatt of electricity and identify whether now is a good time to charge up your electric car or not.
These findings are typical of our own use, although we try not to plug the car in every night unless we need a full charge for the following day.
