11th June 2010 - The Nissan Leaf test drive has started in Japan. Nissan have invited 500 journalists, shareholders, government officials and some customers who have reserved the car to a track near Tokyo. The test drives start today and will take place over the next week.

Nissan has said that the combined orders for Japan and the United States have now reached 20,000. The Nissan Leaf will be priced at 3.76 million yen (£27,000) in Japan, $32,780 (£21,700) in the US and £23,350 including subsidy in the UK.

The Leaf has a listed range of 160 km (100 miles). This range will be reduced depending on traffic conditions, temperature, driving techniques and use of air-conditioning.

Michael Boxwell has test driven the test mule that has been built the EV-12, which gives some sort of idea as to the drive of the new car.
