Weekend with only an electric car

Angela Boxwell and the Mitsubishi i MiEV

16th April 2010 - What do we think of having a weekend with only an electric car?

It's Friday afternoon and we have just been told that our MG ZS will not be back from repair, the window motor had broken and the garage has had problems getting hold of the parts.

Our first reaction was great, as we now do not like using our petrol car. Quite frankly going back to a noisy engine, lots of vibration and technology that is so inefficient a gearbox has to be used doesn't appeal now and our MG ZS quite often sits on the driveway for weeks on end without being used. In fact, if it wasn't for the fact we have a caravan we'd probably get rid of our petrol vehicle completely and just hire one on the odd occasion when needed.

The Mitsubishi i MiEV is smaller than our MG ZS but all the family can fit in comfortably and we have a range for a day of 80 miles. We are lucky where we live as we have several good towns nearby Coventry, Leamington, Rugby and Warwick.

If we have a choice about either using an electric vehicle or our MG ZS, the electric car always wins. The reason for this is it is more economical, quieter, easier to drive, a smoother drive and environmentally friendly.

Our plan for the weekend is on Saturday to do some work in the garden and make a path way, so the Mitsubishi i MiEV will need to be used to get some paving slabs.

Sunday we are planning a trip to Warwick castle for the day, so all the family in the Mitsubishi i MiEV for hopefully a great day out.
